While Mission Road School is a fairly young school at 21 years of age, the general area surrounding the school is rich with history. It is believed that in 1823 a Christian mission and school was opened somewhere between Cartersville and Kingston to evangelize to the Cherokee Indians. The road leading from Cartersville to the mission was called Mission Road. While no one seems to know the exact location of this mission anymore, it is believed to have been somewhere in this area. The Mission Road area also saw events from the Civil War during the year of 1864. Many of the roads and paths were used to move infantry soldiers as both sides jockeyed for strategic position. Many relics from this time period are still found today. More information about the history of Bartow County can be found
